What Is a Blog Post?
Blogging has its roots in being a personal online journal for individuals, but business owners soon saw the benefits of turning this into a marketing tool, using them to provide valuable content for their customers. Blogging is often overlooked when marketing your business and seen as trivial. Contrary to this belief having a well-maintained blog for your website is a fantastic way to help boost your organic reach and increase inbound leads.
Writing the Perfect Blog Post
To write the perfect blog post, you need to break it down into components. Every blog post needs to have the following:
- Catchy, well throughout headlines and sub-headlines
- A well-written blog post outline/introduction
- High quality and relevant images
- The right length
- Links to other relevant parts of your website
Let us break that down a bit further:
Headlines and sub-headlines: If you study how users interact with websites, you see a trend in how many users will scan a page before reading it. If your headlines and sub-headlines do not grab their attention enough to make the reader want to read the rest of the text, you probably lose around 60% of your readers.
Perfecting the best headlines is not easy and can take practice. The best ones make the reader want to continue reading and provide the right balance between information and curiosity.
Outline/Introduction: Crucial for both SEO and the reader, a strong intro will help your blog. Your blog intro should give a brief outline of the subject and what will be covered. It also needs to have any keywords you are looking to rank for, but as with all things SEO, don’t just stuff them in!
Images: Images have more impact than most people give credit for. They can make or break a blog post! They need to not only be high quality but also relevant to the subject too. Try to avoid stock images where possible, as chances are the images are being used elsewhere too, and try to make them personal to your business.
Word Count: Almost guaranteed if you are researching this topic that you have come across blog posts that claim they need to be mega long or won’t rank in the search engines. Or the other side of the argument that they need to be short and punchy to keep the reader’s attention. The truth is that the length is not an issue so long as it is quality content. Make sure it’s engaging and interesting over focussing on short or long-form content.
Internal linking: Internal linking helps with SEO, conversions, and many other aspects that benefit your website. Focusing on solid anchor text and again relevancy is critical when working with internal linking. Do not be tempted to link to every part of your website, thinking it will help!
Perfecting Your Blog Summary
It is important to remember that your blogs should always be written with the end-user in mind and not focus on SEO and the many tactics you might read about employing to help you rank better. Users read your content, no search engines – so if it is not written for them, it is pointless having it on your website.
