Why can’t you say “link in bio” on TikTok?

The TikTok Algorithm..

The For You Page, powered by the highly personalised TikTok algorithm, makes the app so compelling! We’re here to spill some of TikTok’s biggest secrets about how they keep users on the app for hours on end.

What is the TikTok algorithm?

The TikTok algorithm isn’t a vast minefield; in a nutshell, it’s a recommendation system that decides which videos will appear on your FYP based on your interests. It’s so personalised that these change daily based on your search and viewing preferences.

Here’s how TikTok defines its algorithm:

“A stream of videos curated to your interests, making it easy to find content and creators you love … powered by a recommendation system that delivers content to each user likely to be of interest to that particular user.”

A current concern for businesses is that TikTok tries to reduce the likelihood for users to leave the app. For example, social media links on TikTok profiles have been replaced with TikTok QR codes, and you need at least 1K followers to add your website into your bio. Additionally, TikTok shop is a core focus to reduce users’ likelihood of leaving the app and going elsewhere, making it harder for businesses to drive traffic to their websites… Genius right?

Words and phrases you CAN’T use on TikTok

Unfortunately, TikTok comments are often filtered or removed if they contain certain phrases, such as “link in bio,” or “Instagram.”, making it extremely difficult for businesses to promote their products and services. Therefore, it is crucial to use words strategically to drive traffic to your website through TikTok.

How to cheat the TikTok algorithm

How do I cheat the TikTok algorithm? We’ve got insider knowledge. The words link and bio are filtered, meaning they often don’t appear for other users unless you have removed the filtering comments option in your settings. So… instead of saying “link in bio,” try using emojis such as ‘????➡️ ????’ or use cheat words like “bye-oh” to ensure that your video isn’t negatively impacted when driving people elsewhere.
